Interview: Nakia

Ellen - How did you find out about Ellen Wolff Photography / Long Island New York Headshots?

Nakia - Google.

Ellen - Can you tell us why you came in for a headshot?

Nakia - Medical School Graduation photoshoot for virtual 2021 graduation ceremony in lieu of COVID-19.

Ellen - How has life changed since March, since the Covid-19 pandemic started? How have you coped?

Nakia - Life has become very limited in the activities I and my son participate in, as well as created quite a bit of distance between friends and family, since we can no longer congregate at each others homes, eat out at restaurants, shake hands/embrace each other, and attend family gatherings as well as funerals. The entire 2021 Residency Match season was entirely virtual removing the opportunity for applicants to visit the facilities they were applying for 3-5 year employment and lack of time spent with current residents to get a better feel for whether the applicant is a good fit for the program from a personality perspective. We have begun to adapt with the use of consistent masking, hand-washing, and leveraging virtual tools such as Zoom and Teams.

Ellen - How do you take your coffee?

Nakia - Black with 3 sugars.

Ellen - What was the last book you read for fun?

Nakia - An Eternal Golden Braid: Godel Escher Bach.

Ellen - Tell us one thing you can't live without.

Nakia - Internet.

Ellen - Tell us the best place to spend the day outdoors.

Nakia - Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens.

Ellen - Red or white?

Nakia - White.

Ellen - What is your favorite restaurant?

Nakia - Houston's (chain restaurant) because I really enjoy their in-house buttermilk garlic ranch dressing on their spring greens salad, and they have a fantastic spinach dip.

Ellen - What's your best trick for overcoming a block?

Nakia - I will take a break to spend quality time with my son who is a toddler, or work on something else such as practice QBank questions, SmartBook with a study partner, or watch a 1-hour episode of a Netflix series to give my brain a break.

Ellen - It is said that genius is 1 percent inspiration and 99 percent perspiration. What is that ratio like for you?

Nakia - 3% inspiration and 97% perspiration.

Ellen - How did you get started on your current path?

Nakia —  no response -

Ellen - What is your dream project?

Nakia - Developing a cure for cancer.

Ellen - Tell us something you want us to know about what you do, something most folks don't ask and you wish they would. (Something useful to a client or a special skill you have...)
Nakia - I wish people would ask more about the things that motivate me to pursue medicine for so many years as opposed to consistently asking about the steps I took to finish medical school and gain a residency.
